System Support by Batteries

Nov 07, 2024 17:31 System supportive behaviour can provide a benefit for the system and for the service provider. However, German balancing responsible parties are obliged to best meet their schedule in any situation. This is possible in rarest cases. It is indisputable in times of highly flexible energy provision and consumption technologies that German balancing group loyalty is not efficient. We demonstrate here for a battery that even most simplistic strategies of system supportive behaviour provide a business case for batteries and, at the same time, reduce balancing costs.

Chances Flexibilities

Oct 16, 2024 13:00 Potential is currently opening up for new market players such as battery marketers and flexibility aggregators. TSOs want to use these capacities to stabilise the system and are creating new products. In addition, new players are also becoming involved in the area of system stabilisation by exploiting their high adaptation speed in conjunction with sophisticated AI models. The following compares the status quo and the potential of the three major European synchronised areas for such new market players in terms of system stability.

Dec 22, 2023 07:51 Interconnector failures do not only affect the British tranmission system. Rather, the effects are also visible in the markets. Such outages offer growing short-term potential for battery energy storage systems and flexible consumers. Sep 05, 2023 19:00 On 01 September 2023, an interconnector trip between France and UK resulted in a massive frequency drop. The increasing PV infeed during the period of the trip secured the UK against larger consequences for the suppliers and consuments. Jun 15, 2023 16:15 On 08 June 2023, theinterconnector NSL between the Nordics and the UK stopped operation. In consequence, a power flow of 1290 MW has been interrupted and frequency in the Nordic system jumped 400 mHz up while frequency in the UK system nosedived by 500 mHz.
